A new king?

Willem Alexander and Máxima

Willem Alexander and Máxima

April 30, 10 am (4am EST): Queen Beatrix becomes princes again and Willem Alexander will become the new king of the Netherlands, with his wife Máxima as queen. It is a national holiday, and the whole nation colors orange, since the royal family is of the house of Orange.

Overflow crowds in Amsterdam!

Well, it’s not that orange is our king’s favorite color.  ‘Orange’ was originally the name of an area in the South of France (it’s still called by that name, check mapquest), and through alliances and marriages, it came to be associated with the Dutch royals. By now it has become the national color for the Royals, and for Dutch international team of soccer players (and other sports).

Schools across the entire nation had special royal games in these last few days, and Amsterdam promises to be a mad house of orange people!

The new king & queen will ride through some canals, but not as tight as these!

Of course, we have a much greater King to celebrate, and these earthly celebrations only remind us of our Eternal King and Savior.

Have you checked our prayer page lately?
